The environment is something that has been talked about since I was a kid. It started out with Chlorofluorocarbons. Do you remember those? They used to be used in cans of duster and hairspray. These compounds deplete the atmosphere of ozone which is bad. Very bad. Back in the day anyone who took the time to have some fabulous “bangs” was persecuted for that hole in the ozone. The downfalls of fashion.
We’ve come a long way since then in terms of the environment. Now that we’ve found ways of propping up our hair without the use chlorofluorocarbons, focus has turned to other things such as reclaiming things we may have once thrown away, or, say, to the homes we live in.
When the developer I represent decided to make all of his future projects Green, it became clear to me that living Green doesn’t take a radical new way of thinking. It just takes a few minor changes. Here are a few of the things that I have incorporated into my business to make me the Greenest agent in town.
- I am probably one of the very few realtors in Chicago that does not own a car. When I need to get somewhere I:
- Walk
- Use the CTA
- Use the IGO car-sharing program. When I do need to drive a car, 90% of the time it is one of the hybrids that IGO has to offer.
- I represent one of the greenest developers in Chicago. You can learn all about our new line of Green Homes at my website, www.greenchicagoagent.com
- Almost all of my work is done electronically – and the few pieces of paper that I use is recycled stock. Any waste is shredded and recycled.
- 90% of my personal marketing is done on the web. I stay in contact with my past and future clients via email and updates to my website. I do not send out wasteful items such as magnets and labels that will ultimately end up con tributing to landfills.
- I will complete my Green designation with the National Association of Realtor.
When I purchased my first home I had a Koenig & Strey agent by my side who coordinated everything for me. This is why when I decided to begin my career in Real Estate nearly two years ago I chose Koenig & Strey. They stress customer satisfaction and having been one of their customers, it shows.
Previsouly, I was an administrator at Kirkegaard Associates, a world class architectural acoustics firm, where my two loves came together: the theater and architecture. During my five years there I would go on to balance the administrative needs for many consultants. This included preparing business development materials, preparing contracts and formatting specifications. Now that I am with Koenig and Strey I still do all those things with my clients priorities in mind. |
